Accessibility statement

This statement covers the whole Piano Reps website.

I want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. You should be able to:

  • Zoom in up to 400% without text going off the screen
  • Use the whole website with a keyboard
  • Use dark mode, if your device is set to it
  • Turn off animation, using your device's reduced motion setting

How accessible this website is

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Known problems

  • Hands shown only by colour: on the keyboard maps, colour alone shows which hand plays a key. Orange is the right hand, and teal is the left. Each map's text description names the hands. This fails WCAG success criterion 1.4.1 Use of Color. I plan to fix this, but haven't set a date.
  • Note flashcards: each card shows a note on a stave, and reading it is the test. So screen readers hear only which clef the card uses. WCAG allows this for a test that text would give away, under success criterion 1.1.1 Non-text Content. The notes on the stave page names every note.

Other ways to get the content

  • Sheet music: each tune is also written out as text, bar by bar. Open “Notes as text” under the sheet music.
  • Keyboard maps: each map has a text description that screen readers read out. It lists every marked key and finger.

How this statement was prepared

I prepared this statement on 29 October 2026, and last reviewed it on 1 November 2026. I last tested the website on 29 October 2026, against WCAG 2.2 level AA.

I did the testing myself:

  • Automated checks with axe on every page, in light and dark mode
  • Automated checks with WAVE on a sample of pages
  • Keyboard-only use
  • Zoom at 200% and 400%
  • Reduced motion settings
  • Screen reader use with VoiceOver on macOS

I plan to test with VoiceOver again, in more depth.
